August has the Corolla surf producing across multiple species right now. Puppy drum, sea mullet, croaker, and spot are all showing along our northern beaches, and early mornings have brought a steady bluefish and Spanish mackerel bite. Fall is closing in fast, and that means the biggest run of the year is not far behind.

Puppy Drum

Puppy drum, also known as slot reds or juvenile red drum, are showing well along our northern beaches right now. These fish are a reliable surf target this time of year and a good early sign of what is building toward fall. Stop by the shop and we will get you set up with the right drum gear.

Sea Mullet, Croaker & Spot

Sea mullet, also called kingfish or whiting, are mixing in with croaker and spot along the northern beaches. This bottom fishing combination is a Corolla surf staple and consistently good table fare. It is an easy, productive setup for anglers of any experience level.

Early risers are being rewarded right now. Bluefish and Spanish mackerel have been thick along our beaches at sunrise, with spoons doing the work. This is a classic early morning bite that tends to taper off as the sun climbs, so plan an early start if you want in on it.
